Join us for the next Dedham Greenspace Coalition meeting on Thursday, March 26th at 7 PM at Reynolds TLC Studios, 390 Washington Street, Dedham Square.
The Dedham Greenspace Coalition invites anyone interested in efforts to support land and water conservation across the Commonwealth to its upcoming monthly meeting, featuring special guest speaker Heather Clish, Policy Director at The Trustees of Reservations. Ms. Clish will speak in support of an initiative from the Nature for All Coalition, a statewide alliance advocating for a landmark investment in Massachusetts’ natural resources.
Nature for All Coalition is a non-profit coalition of over 50 environmental, conservation, and community organizations are urging the State Legislature to pass the Nature for All bill (H.901/S.2571) to fund land and water conservation year.
The idea is simple: set aside revenue from the existing state sales tax on sporting goods to raise $100 million every year for protecting and conserving water and nature—without raising taxes.
This diverse group came together to advocate for land and water conservation to improve water quality, promote public health, protect against habitat and farmland loss, and support the growing outdoor recreation economy.
Noah Matson, Chief Conservation and Climate Officer for The Trustees, a coalition member explains, “The new funding mechanism would support the conservation and restoration of water and land in Massachusetts, and to support the creation and improvement of parks, trails, greenspaces, and other outdoor recreation spaces. This would be funded by the state’s existing sales tax on sporting goods such as hiking boots and tents, without new taxes. This would more than 10x the amount of funding the Commonwealth provides to land and water conservation each year.”
